i did this for my sumi ink painting class last semester as a final project...yes, my teacher was cool enough that our final project didn't have to be painting anyway, the theme for the project was "heaven and earth" and was supposed to encompass some taoist theories we had been learning about. i took the idea really abstractly i guess, and came up with this. i wanted to focus on connections, cycles, circles.
as for technique, i started out writing a lot of ideas about what i wanted to do and say, and picked a few statements/illustrations to put in, hand-drawing the animation for them. then i did a digital painting of the whole composition in photoshop and added the hand-drawn animation. everything was combined in flash and um...yeah. getting the timing right was a little difficult, especially since this is flash we're talking about and it makes everything as difficult as possible. ;3 no sound, but i'd like to do something like this again which might encompass sound.
it took a really long time to decide on this, but once i got started it was really fun, especially being able to make use of my washi paper (which i need more of, 8 designs is noooot enough omg <3) hope you like it
this is really beautiful. you have a real knack for textures, in both your animated and still works.
incidentally, if you're interested i have a neighbor who does a lot of stuff with washi paper and might be able to ask her where she gets hers from/if i could buy some from her.
